I think it's important to note the show really has pointed out, Emma isn't all that graceful with a turn of phrase even when you give her the time to think out the best way to present Emotional Reactions. She's always been made of hard edges and incredibly very sharp reactions when something is endangered (also, frequently violent-dismissive-avoidance ridden-caustic ones), over taking her time to think things out logically and holding back for any sense of propriety or self.
